Maintenance-Free Replacement Windows

Considering replacement windows for your home? Looking for low maintenance replacement windows? You’ve come to the right place. While truly maintenance free windows do not exist, there are options on the market that are virtually maintenance-free—with only routine cleanings needed to keep the windows looking new.

In years past, keeping your windows looking brand new required frequent attention-staining, sanding, sealing, and painting every few years to prevent weathering, cracking, chipping, or wood rot. Innovations over the past several years have given rise to a new and increasingly popular type of windows: fiberglass windows.

What is Fiberglass?

Fiberglass is a reinforced plastic material that contains plastic and glass fibers embedded in a resin material. Fiberglass is extremely lightweight, but also very strong and durable. Fiberglass has become a very popular building material for a variety of industries. In fact, you likely own many objects today that are made of fiberglass. Many car components are made of fiberglass and it is very likely that the insulation in your home is fiberglass. In the last 20 years, fiberglass has emerged as a reliable and affordable material that can be used for a variety of functions.

Are Fiberglass Windows Really Maintenance-Free?

Well, they are and they aren’t, depending on what you view as window maintenance. If you consider cleaning your windows to be window maintenance, then no, they are not completely maintenance free. They do not, however, require sanding, standing, painting, or sealing like traditional wood windows. All our fiberglass window finishes are designed to resist fading, peeling or flaking, leaving you with beautiful looking windows for years.

Fiberglass windows are resistant to these problems because unlike wood windows and some vinyl windows, fiberglass windows colors are not painted on. Instead, the color is infused in the fiberglass itself and is very resistant to fading. With the colors infused into the fiberglass material itself, chips and scratches are virtually unnoticeable, removing the need for inconvenient and potentially costly maintenance.

For those that are looking for replacement windows with a traditional wooden look, fiberglass windows are commonly available with a wood-clad interior or even fiberglass with a wood grain appearance. Wood-clad fiberglass windows will require minimal maintenance and upkeep for the wood indoors, but for minimal maintenance, you may want to choose fully fiberglass replacement windows with a wood-grain texture. Weather Shield’s fiberglass windows have several fiberglass interior finishes that mimic a real wood finish. We currently offer the following faux wood interior finishes:
